La revue Métropoles lance un appel à contributions pour un dossier thématique intitulé : « Les adolescentes dans les espaces publics urbains : pratiques spatiales, enjeux et actions publiques » Coordonné par Nathalie Boucher (Respire-Montréal), Sarah-Maude Cossette (Respire-Montréal), Alexandre Donnen (AGS-ULB) et Muriel Sacco (AGS-ULB), ce numéro spécial vise à approfondir la réflexion sur la place des adolescentes dans les espaces publics urbains, leurs pratiques spatiales, leurs mobilités, ainsi que les politiques et actions publiques qui participent à rendre ces espaces plus inclusifs.

This event will take place at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Solbosch Campus, in the Henri Janne room, on the 15th floor of Building S. Titre : ‘Unwoke the University’: A Mere Question of Academic Freedom? Insights from Belgium

Abstract : Donald Trump’s 2025 return to power has led to a spectacular comeback of academic freedom in academic research and university policies. While echoing earlier trends, it has prompted renewed concern about the fragility of academic freedom even in established democracies. In response, academic freedom has re-emerged as a political and institutional resource, with proposals such as the constitutionalisation of academic freedom. While these initiatives may offer a more robust legal protection and generate a necessary debate on the role of research and universities in a well-functioning democracy, they could also, if insufficiently prepared, easily backfire. Furthermore, as indicated by a discussion of recent developments in Belgium, academic freedom cannot be addressed in isolation from broader political debates. The debate about woke shows that it should be related to a broader analysis of the politics of knowledge. Defending academic freedom requires recognising its political embeddedness and addressing broader challenges to democratic values and knowledge production.

Titre : The ‘pro-life’ generation: generational renewal and historical continuities in the fight against abortion in Belgium (1968–2023)

Abstract : A generational rhetoric has been noted within the ‘pro-life’ movements of many countries in recent years, with activists claiming to be part of ‘the pro-life generation.’ In order to address what is truly ‘generational’ about the ‘pro-life generation’, this article offers a socio-historical analysis of how the movement opposing abortion has developed in Belgium, from the creation of the first group in 1968 to the present day: what does it mean to be the ‘pro-life generation’? What historical, sociological, or strategic rupture are these young activists attempting to embody? To understand the intended break with the past implied by the notion of ‘generation’ this article will examine the movement through multiple lenses: discursive, structural, sociological, and strategic.

Titre : Quand la chair déborde : enjeux de (re) présentation des corps dans le bodybuilding et le roller derby sur Instagram

Résumé : Par leurs corps musculeux jusqu’à l’extrême, gros, ou queer, les pratiquantes du bodybuilding et du roller derby posent inévitablement la question de la subversion de genre. En faisant appel à des ressources visuelles de ces deux sous-cultures, cet article analyse les (re)présentations des corps genrés, avec une attention à la matérialité derrière l’image. La féminité apparaît comme un système de signes enclos, dont déborde la chair. Si les joueuses de roller derby réinvestissent la féminité pour en étendre le signifié par glissements du signifiant, les bodybuildeuses outrepassent le signe, attestant de la limite même du système de signification.
