Retour sur 10 ans d’AGS pour réfléchir sur le passé, présent et futur des études de genre en Belgique

Il y a 10 ans, en juin 2005, l’Atelier Genre(s) et Sexualité(s) voyait le jour à l’Institut de Sociologie de l’Université libre de Bruxelles. Son caractère pluridisciplinaire, croisant sociologie, anthropologie, science politique, histoire, philosophie, psychologie sociale et littérature a permis à nombre de chercheurs.euses, jeun.e.s ou confirmé.es ainsi qu’aux acteurs et actrices de la société civile d’avoir un espace de parole et de débat pour (re)penser de manière critique les questions et enjeux propres aux sociétés belges et d’ailleurs.
A l’occasion de ses dix ans, l’équipe de l’Atelier Genre(s) et Sexualité(s) souhaite faire le point sur les constantes et les changements, à la fois dans les études de genre et des sexualités dans la recherche et dans les pratiques individuelles, collectives, et institutionnelles. Qu’est-ce que les différentes thématiques qu’ont tour à tour animées les séminaires AGS nous apprennent sur les études de genre et des sexualités et sur leur évolution ? Quel impact ces lignes de recherche ont-elles eu sur les politiques publiques et universitaires ? Quelles urgences se présentent à nous en matière de recherche dans les prochaines années ? Ce sont autant de questions qui seront abordées lors d’une table ronde qui ressemblera des chercheurs/euses, militant.e.s et représentant.e.s académiques francophones et néerlandophones.

Chia Longman is Associate Professor at the Dep. of Languages and Cultures at Ghent University, Belgium. She is Director of the Research Centre for Culture and Gender and also directs the new Flemish Inter-University Master Programme in Gender and Diversity. Her research interests include gender, ethnicity, religion and multiculturalism in Europe. Recent publications include a co-edited book Interrogating Harmful Cultural Practices (with T. Bradley, Ashgate, 2015). She is currently working on an ethnographic project on women’s spiritualities in contemporary well-being culture.

Stéphanie Loriaux (1974) is professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, where she teaches Dutch literature, literature history and civilization. She graduated in Dutch colonial literature with a thesis entitled Luid tussen twee stilten. Vergeten vrouwenstemmen uit tempo doeloe. De Indisch-Nederlandse literatuur uit het negentiende-eeuwse damescompartiment. (= Loudly between two silences. Forgotten women’s voices of the golden age. The Indian-Dutch literature of the nineteenth-century women’s room). Her research focuses on colonial and postcolonial Indian-Dutch literature, with a special interest in the work of (post)colonial women authors belonging to the second and third generation of Indian-Dutch writers. Other areas of research are Dutch and Flemish contemporary women’s literature and the productions of Dutch and Flemish authors of Moroccan origin. She is the Faculty-coordinator of the ‘Réseau interfacultaire des personnes de contact genre’, and a member of the research unit Sages: Savoirs, Genre et Société (= Knowledge, Gender and Society). She is also the French-speaking chairperson of Sophia, the Belgian coordination network for Women’s and Gender Studies, which elaborated the “Feasibility study for a Master's in Gender Studies” in Belgium in 2011. She cofounded the network Grabuges and its National Research Fund’s Research group Gender: from theories to research practices. She is a member of the editorial board of Sextant (ULB) and of the advisory board of Digest, Journal of Diversity and Gender Studies (UGent).

Bart Eeckhout is Professor of English and American Literature at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where he teaches queer fiction and queer studies and supervises doctoral dissertations in the field. His other long-term specializations are the poetry of Wallace Stevens and interdisciplinary urban studies. He has authored and edited more than twenty books and journal issues. His publications on LGBT/queer topics have appeared in Queer in Europe and the Journal of Homosexuality. He is currently co-editing a collection of essays entitled LGBTQs, Media and Culture in Europe and has various queer essays forthcoming in books and journals. Dr. Eeckhout is also chair of the Board of Directors of the Flemish LGBTIQ umbrella organization çavaria.

Nadine Pleateau is involved in the women’s movement since 1970. She joined the Université des femmes in 1982 and was a member of the editorial board of its review «Chronique féministe» until 1999. She co-founded Sophia in 1989, a bi-communitarian network aimed at promoting women’s studies in Belgium. She is currently president of the Education commission of the Conseil des femmes francophones de Belgique.
